SUMMARY:VIC TAS PD
DESCRIPTION:“Victorian Child Safe Standards\, effective from January 2017 – The Facts”\nPresented by: The Commission for Children and Young People\nDate: 10th April 2017 \nTime: 12pm – 5pm \nVenue: Graduate House\, University of Melbourne\, Carlton \nLunch: Networking lunch and afternoon tea available \nCost: \nMember    $30 including lunch\nMember    $0 no lunch \nNon-member $85 including lunch\nNon-member $55 no lunch \n  \nDo you have students who are under the age of 18? If the answer to this is yes\, then the new Victorian Child Safe Standards affect you! \nDespite numerous presentations about the new standards in 2016\, ISANA has identified gaps in their application within the education sector. There is confusion and misunderstanding about guardianship\, homestays\, under 18 approved accommodation\, gap periods between providers\, club memberships /events\, camps and who is ultimately responsible for the child. \nThe presenters will also touch on the recent review to the National Code. As all education providers are aware\, irrespective of being a large or small organisation the National Code is legally enforceable. Breaches of the National Code by CRICOS registered providers can result in action being taken against the provider under Division 1 in Part 6 of the ESOS Act. \nMany organisations subject to the standards will have policies and processes for dealing with under 18’s in place – this PD session will help to address any gaps that exist and will answer all your questions about what it is you have to do. \nThe focus will be on assisting organisations in integrating the safety of children into their everyday thinking and professional practice\, with the ultimate aim of creating measurable outcomes in the future. \n  \n  \nONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSED for further information please email isana@isana.org.au \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:ACTiveNSW PD & AGM
DESCRIPTION:AGM & A Holistic Approach to the First Year Experience (FYE)\nDate: Thursday\, 24th November 2016 \nTime: 2pm – 3pm (AGM)    3pm – 5pm (PD) \nVenue: Level 1\, 10 Barrack Street\, Sydney NSW 2000 \nMember AGM & PD – FREE \nNon-Member – $95.00 (Why not become an ISANA member instead? Membership starts from $150 which provides you with free participation in all ACTiveNSW Branch Professional development sessions throughout the year.) \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nSession Outline\nThe first year experience for students entering into higher education or even certain vocational courses can be a real challenge. UTS has incorporated an institution-wide program designed to encourage academics to embed pedagogic strategies into their subject planning – for classroom practice\, assessment\, student’s interaction and collaboration\, developing independent learners and supporting the diverse cohorts that are part of their first year subjects. Networking and collaboration of academics with academics\, and academics with professional staff are essential elements of the role of FYE coordination. \nAttend this workshop to hear about the initiatives and analysis done by UTS this year in regards to the FYE. \nAbout the presenter\nDr Kathy Egea is a senior lecturer at UTS and coordinates the First Year Experience (FYE) program at UTS. To achieve this\, she has developed a large community of practice in FYE (membership to date is 583) and facilitates regular FYE forums. The goal here is to foster engagement\, collaboration and dissemination of good practices undertaken by community members. \nThrough an extensive use of data\, Kathy has been able to demonstrate the success of the FYE program in maintaining or improving the transition experience of commencing students (improving pass rates and retention rates) despite huge growth in student numbers. The program with Kathy as program lead\, has gained both institutional and national recognition through citations\, program awards and facilitating a national network of FYE educators. \nKathy has had an extensive career in education\, as a high school maths and science teacher\, a primary teaching in Spain\, and a university computing academic at CQUniversity (1999-2007)\, University of Queensland (2008-2009). Since her move to NSW in 2010\, she has been a tutor with CQU\, researcher at UTS\, and most recently facilitated academics and industry collaboration towards the accreditation of UTS Information Technology degree programs. \nFrom 2008 to 2014\, she was an active member of the Australian Computer Society\, as a board member and chair of ACS Women for both Queensland and NSW. \n
