SUMMARY:ISANA NZ 2018 Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The international student experience: Connecting research and practice\n\nAssociate Professor Ly Tran (Deakin University) http://www.deakin.edu.au/about-deakin/people/ly-tran\nDr Stephanie Doyle (Victoria University of Wellington) http://www.victoria.ac.nz/education/about/staff/stephanie-doyle\n\nThis one-day symposium aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working in international education in New Zealand. International education is currently New Zealand’s 4th largest export industry and valued at more than $4 billion. While the financial benefit is important for the country and host institutions\, education providers and government stakeholders also have a responsibility towards meeting the needs and interests of international students. \nThe International Student Wellbeing Strategy was launched by the Ministry of Education in 2017. The strategy promises a high quality and authentic experience for international students that is underpinned by four aspirational outcomes for students: economic wellbeing\, quality education\, health and wellbeing\, and feelings of inclusion. However\, there has been limited research across all areas. In addition\, researchers\, policymakers\, and practitioners often work in separate domains\, and yet\, there is much potential for their experiences to inform each other’s work. \nThis symposium considers the following questions: \n\nWhat does it mean to have a ‘high quality and authentic’ international student experience?\nWhat are the challenges in creating or facilitating such an experience?\nHow can practitioners be supported to identify trends and implement tailored practice that makes a difference in the international student experience?\nHow can researchers\, practitioners\, and government stakeholders work together to fulfill the aspirational goals of international education in New Zealand?\n\nRegistration fees are $100 for ISANA members\, $184 for non-members\, and just $50 for students. \nPlease click here to register for the event.

In changing times\, and with continual restructures how do we maintain quality? It is through the gathering of like minded professionals and international students that we are able to share knowledge and network in order to maintain the standards we are truly happy with. This year’s conference will adopt speakers that will embrace their role as ‘drivers of change’. If we want change to happen it is vital that we are honest about our strengths and weaknesses and be proactive in addressing concerns as they arise. We must remain vigilant and focused on the needs and expectations of our students and we can only do this by sharing knowledge on what our peers are doing well. This will ensure that we can meet changing government requirements to improve quality standards in the environments that we work in each day. The conference has an immense opportunity to grow new partnerships\, new technology and new modes of engagement to benefit students. Sessions will be interactive\, innovative\, stimulating and include time for discussion. \nHighlight topics covered at the Conference: \n\nSelf-Care (for all student advisors/support staff/professionals)\nHousing Advocacy\nGambling Harm\nCultural Diversity\nSexual harassment and “hazing” practices\nEffective use of new innovative technology and update on Myki\n\nConference format will include: \n\nConcurrent sessions from various renown practitioners in their fields\nDiscussion panels\nWorkshops on various aspects of student services delivery and procedures\nTheatre performance\n\nWe look forward to your participation in this conference.

SUMMARY:ACEN WA workshop - Emerging models of WIL

Curtin Learning and Teaching\nDate: Thursday\, 30 August 2018 \nTime: 9:15 Registration\, 9:30 to 12:30 followed by lunch. \nVenue: Carpe Diem Studio\, Hackett Hall\, UWA Map Please note that as visitor parking is limited\, public transport is encouraged. \nCost: Free to staff of ACEN member organisations (please see note below)\, $20 for non members. Registration is required. \nRegister: Click here \n\n\nAbstract\nThe contemporary and emerging environment facing Australian and global enterprises is characterised by the arrival of disruptive technologies and global economic transformation with innovation as an economic driver. In this rapidly changing landscape graduates need to be highly adaptable\, resilient and prepared to gain and create their own employment opportunities over their careers. Research shows that work integrated learning (WIL) has a positive impact on enhancing student work readiness and the demand for WIL is rapidly increasing. With growing student numbers\, traditional models of WIL which are resource intensive are unsustainable. Further expansion of quality WIL opportunities is seriously limited without system-wide attention being given to innovative models enabling greater engagement and capacity. Importantly\, these emerging WIL models need to align with the contemporary work environment and meet student needs by preparing them for this changing world of work. \n\nshowcase innovative WIL models such as micro internships\, WIL in Incubators and other emerging approaches to WIL that overcome constraints to engagement particularly for SMEs and respond to the changing nature of work.\nexplore emerging features and success factors for these innovative models\nenable you to consider how these emerging models might be adapted in your context\nprovide opportunity for you to share and co-design innovative models of WIL\n\nFor further details contact: Jean Wootton at J.Wootton@murdoch.edu.au \nMembership is free for staff of member institutions. SUMMARY:PREPARE YOUR WORKPLACE FOR THE NATIONAL CODE 2018
DESCRIPTION:A WORKSHOP SERIES FOR MANAGERS AND PRACTITIONERS WORKING WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS \nISANA VIC/TAS in conjunction with International knowledge-base would like to invite you to attend the last session of workshops series for managers and practitioners working with international students and ESOS compliance. \nVenue: G04 Gateway building\, Trinity College Melbourne\nGetting there: Tram no-19\, Stop 12– Morrah Street/Royal Parade\, Parkville \nCost:\nSingle workshop(10 AM- 1 PM): ( Include morning or afternoon tea)\nNon-members: $150                         ISANA members: $75 \nBoth workshops(2 PM- 5 PM)     (include morning and afternoon tea)\nNon-members:$200                        ISANA members: $100 \n \nLimited registrations for the sessions apply. \n  \nStandard 5 workshop – Younger overseas students 10am to 1pm\nThe care and welfare of international students now includes the requirement to meet any Commonwealth\, State or Territory legislation\, or other regulatory requirements relating to child welfare and protection appropriate to the jurisdiction(s) in which providers operate. There are specific requirements to minimise welfare gaps – to take responsibility for students transferring to another provider and to notify parents and the Department of Home Affairs if a provider is no longer able to approve welfare arrangements. Providers must have processes to monitor any third parties engaged by the registered provider to organise and assess welfare and accommodation arrangements. All adults involved in providing international student accommodation or welfare arrangements must have working with children clearances appropriate to the jurisdiction in which they operate. There is also an initial requirement to check that an international student’s accommodation is appropriate to the student’s age and physical needs and every six months thereafter. \nThis workshop repeats the successful session held on December 1 2017. It will address the following questions:\n· What are some good practice examples of guidelines for approving and monitoring third parties involved in accommodation and welfare arrangements?\n· How do you ensure there are no gaps in welfare arrangements?\n· How do you check the appropriateness of accommodation?\n· What is involved in checking accommodation every six months? \n  \nStandard 4 workshop – Education agents 2pm to 5pm\nThis standard confirms the provider’s responsibility for written agreements and the need to maintain this information in PRISMS. Agents are now required to declare and avoid conflicts of interest\, observe appropriate levels of confidentiality and transparency in dealing with international students\, and act honestly and in good faith. Agents must also have knowledge of the Australian International Education and Training Agent Code of Ethics. \nThis workshop will address the following questions:\n· How do you train your agents and ensure they have access to the plethora of information required to assist students in making an informed decision about their study?\n· What is a conflict of interest and how is this declared?\n· What level of training is required on the Code of Ethics?\n· What resources are available to support agents and providers in their contractual \n
