International education is currently New Zealand’s 4th largest export industry and valued at more than $4 billion. While the financial benefit is important for the country and host institutions\, education providers and government stakeholders also have a responsibility towards meeting the needs and interests of international students. \nThe International Student Wellbeing Strategy was launched by the Ministry of Education in 2017. The strategy promises a high quality and authentic experience for international students that is underpinned by four aspirational outcomes for students: economic wellbeing\, quality education\, health and wellbeing\, and feelings of inclusion. However\, there has been limited research across all areas. In addition\, researchers\, policymakers\, and practitioners often work in separate domains\, and yet\, there is much potential for their experiences to inform each other’s work. \nThis symposium considers the following questions: \n\nWhat does it mean to have a ‘high quality and authentic’ international student experience?\nWhat are the challenges in creating or facilitating such an experience?\nHow can practitioners be supported to identify trends and implement tailored practice that makes a difference in the international student experience?\nHow can researchers\, practitioners\, and government stakeholders work together to fulfill the aspirational goals of international education in New Zealand?\n\nRegistration fees are $100 for ISANA members\, $184 for non-members\, and just $50 for students. \nPlease click here to register for the event.

DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE to register NOW!\nCost: ISANA member free of charge | $90 for non-members \nThe Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act)—and associated legislation—form the ESOS Framework. This is the legal framework for the provision of education services to overseas students\, and sets out the registration requirements and the ongoing standards for education providers that offer courses to overseas students. The framework provides a consistent national approach to the registration of education providers so that the quality of the training\, and the care of students\, remains high. It protects the rights of international students studying in Australia. \nThe National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 (National Code) sets out eleven Standards for the conduct of registered providers. The Code governs the protection of overseas students and is a legislative instrument of the ESOS Act. As such\, it is legally enforceable—breaches of the National Code by providers can result in enforcement action under the ESOS Act. \nGiven the significant importance of The Framework\, this PD will help participants to understand the eleven Standards as outlined in The National Code through creative and interactive learning. There will be interesting group activities\, role plays\, and a competition (mystery prizes to be won) to spice-up the whole learning environment!
