SUMMARY:ISANA: Industry Collaboration Session about the Lived Experience Toolkit (LET)
DESCRIPTION:Registration: CLICK HERE \nLET is an exciting partnership between ISANA and SIC (Story IS Connection) that will engage NSW international students in relation to the challenges that have impacted their mental health and well-being. Content for a film will be developed through a story-telling process. Experts by experience will educate experts by profession about the mental health issues impacting international students’ experience. The personal stories shared by international students will form the basis of a digital orientation toolkit\, sensitively crafted into seven film chapters. This resource will inspire conversation and destigmatize mental health within the international student community whilst serving as a vital contribution to the NSW education and service provider sectors. The final product will provide clear pathways to NSW support services and be available to NSW institutions. \nThe collaboration of ISANA with Story Is Connection (SIC) ensures an informed and innovative resource. ISANA is well established and continues to assist those directly and professionally engaged in the provision of international education services. SIC has successfully implemented creative storytelling projects that mobilise the voice and agency of international students\, their underpinned by the unique ability of the artistic director Catherine Simmonds OAM to draw forth the private\, untold experiences of ordinary people into the public sphere\, a practice she has developed over 30 years. \nSome examples of SIC projects include: \n\n‘Act of Translation’ won: 2018 Multicultural Awards for Excellence as Community Innovation from Victorian Multicultural Commission (Page 9)  The 2 min trailer from AOT documentary http://storyisconnection.com/aot/\nBe You Be Scene (Stories at the Heart of Change) A collaboration between ISANA and SIC: Finalists of PIEoneer award (Student support) in 2019\nA permanent film installation at the Immigration Museum Melbourne http://storyisconnection.com/forget-the-stereotypes/\n\nIndustry partners involvement in the project: \n\nBecome part of the consultation panel identifying and guiding the issues explored\nRegister your interest in being involved in one of the film chapters. SUMMARY:2021 ISANA & IEAA Online Under 18 Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:In response to the significant interest in all issues related to under 18 international students\, ISANA and IEAA are pleased to announce the second annual Under 18 Masterclass. Three Masterclasses will be hosted online and address key issues associated with academic progression\, accommodation\, welfare\, and risk management of under 18 international students. Experienced professionals will share good practice on each of the key topics. Participants will be encouraged to discuss challenges and explore solutions. \n\nDates: Wednesdays 27 October\, 3 November & 10 November 2021\nTime: 12 – 1:30pm AEDT\nCost for the three Masterclasses: IEAA and ISANA* members $50 | Non-members $90 \n\nProgram: pdf\n\nMasterclass #1:  In-house under 18 support\nWednesday 27 October 2021\, 12 – 1:30pm (AEDT) \nDeakin College developed an Under 18 program that gives staff the opportunity to build a positive rapport with students by having a live-in caretaker housed at the on-campus residence site\, and a dedicated Deakin College ‘in-house’ guardian. In this Masterclass\, members of the Student Services and Learning Support teams will discuss how this holistic support benefits Under 18 students. They will show how teams throughout the College and partner University work together to support students socially\, emotionally and academically. Through interactive quizzes and breakout rooms\, they will discuss case studies and solutions as well as various initiatives that have been tried. \n \nNicolle Walker\nUnder 18 Manager\nDeakin College \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nRachel Maissan\nActing Academic Manager of Learning Support and Retention\nDeakin College \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMasterclass #2: Trinity College Partnership Agreement\nWednesday 3 November\, 12 – 1:30pm AEDT \nOur Pathways School operates in a highly regulated environment. All education provided to overseas students studying in Australia is governed by multiple authorities administering numerous pieces of state and federal legislation and regulations. The fact that a large percentage of Trinity College Foundation Studies cohort is under the age of 18 further complicates the legislative framework that governs the operations of the Pathways School. This Masterclass will address how Trinity College assures compliance with legal obligations for our students living in third party accommodations \nThe expected learning outcomes from the session are: \n\nGain an understanding of key pieces of Australian legislation or other regulatory requirements relating to child welfare and safety.\nUnderstand preparations a provider must have in place if it accepts responsibility for approving accommodation\, support and general welfare arrangements.\nUnderstand your organisations responsibility with the current legislation context.\n\n \nJen Walsh\nSenior Manager Student Accommodation and Experience Trinity College\nUniversity of Melbourne \n  \n  \n\nMasterclass #3: Risk Management and Under 18 student’s welfare arrangements for return to Australia\nWednesday 10 November\, 12 – 1:30pm AEDT \nThis Masterclass focusses on risk management and support strategies for Study Providers who are preparing for Australian borders to re-open. The session delves into the students predicted journey and highlights the safety and wellbeing concerns for study providers with possible return plans. A perspective from the Queensland Department of Education and Sonder is explored by Nathan Pugliese (Queensland\, Department of Education\, International) and Robert Chase (Sonder). Insights from the Queensland\, Department of Education are offered from their recent participation in the Australian Government’s Year 11 and 12 international student travel exemption Scheme. The partnership highlights an approach that is most practical for international student’s needs\, legislative requirements and appropriate for the needs of students under the age 18. \n\nThe expected learning outcomes from the session are:\nWhat are the risks of returning younger overseas students to Australia?\nWhat should study providers consider when planning for return plans wen available?\nHow to consider a student centric risk plan based on risk identification and implementation of control measures.\nProviding the best welfare care and humanising international student return plans to Australia.\n\n  \nRobert Chasse\nEducation Partnerships & Integrations\nSonder \n  \n  \n  \n \nNathan Pugliese\nManager\, Strategy & Performance\, Education Queensland International (EQI)\nDEInternational
