DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE to register NOW!\nCost: ISANA member free of charge | $90 for non-members \nThe Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act)—and associated legislation—form the ESOS Framework. This is the legal framework for the provision of education services to overseas students\, and sets out the registration requirements and the ongoing standards for education providers that offer courses to overseas students. The framework provides a consistent national approach to the registration of education providers so that the quality of the training\, and the care of students\, remains high. It protects the rights of international students studying in Australia. \nThe National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 (National Code) sets out eleven Standards for the conduct of registered providers. The Code governs the protection of overseas students and is a legislative instrument of the ESOS Act. As such\, it is legally enforceable—breaches of the National Code by providers can result in enforcement action under the ESOS Act. \nGiven the significant importance of The Framework\, this PD will help participants to understand the eleven Standards as outlined in The National Code through creative and interactive learning. There will be interesting group activities\, role plays\, and a competition (mystery prizes to be won) to spice-up the whole learning environment! This framework consists of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act)\, the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students (National Code) and the Education Services for Overseas Students Regulations 2001 (ESOS Regulations).\nThese regulatory obligations encompass the international student life cycle from enquiry\, application\, offer\, acceptance\, orientation and beyond … ensuring satisfactory course progress\, attendance and completion within course duration. \nThis workshop will examine the regulatory framework that governs international education in Australia. Participants will be guided through the Act\, the Code and the Regulations to gain a better understanding of what is required to be compliant with a specific focus on their area of responsibility. Good practice will be discussed to enable participants to identify the adequacy of existing compliance measures and to consider opportunities for improvement. \nDuring this workshop\, we will also discuss implementing the changes to the ESOS Regulations coming into effect on the 1st of October. Participants are encouraged to bring real life case scenarios to the workshop for group discussion to determine the best possible outcome … keeping in mind the needs of the student\, the institution and regulatory obligations. \nPresenter – Danielle Hartridge\nDanielle Hartridge is a leading expert in international education with extensive experience working in the university sector. For this reason\, the skills you learn may be applied to very common\, everyday situations\, especially when working with students from different backgrounds and cultures. \nThere may be no evidence of cause for the distress that you observe in someone\, but you may feel that there is nevertheless grief or stress present\, and you would like to feel competent to help in some way. Perhaps you have found yourself in a situation among distressed people where you are asked to provide help\, or you may see that help is needed\, but you are not quite sure how to offer it. Yet\, you know that to do nothing is not an option\, so you pitch in and do your best to provide comfort until professional help arrives. \nThus\, in this PD session\, you will learn how to recognise symptoms of mental distress that might not be so evident to others and what you can do when there is a need for a person (a victim’s family member\, for example) to be referred on to more advanced levels of help\, such as to counsellors\, doctors\, or the police. This 6 hour training course comes very highly recommended and is an excellent staff training tool so we can do our very best to recognise signs that students are in need of assistance. The workshop helps participants recognise when a person may be having thoughts of suicide\, and provides strategies to intervene and assist them.\nWesley Lifeforce is not a counselling service and the training may not be suitable for those recently bereaved by suicide. \nDi Merrit\, Wesley Lifeforce Facilitiator\, has worked in suicide prevention since 2003 as a volunteer telephone counsellor and held the position of Gambling Counsellor in Far West NSW before moving to Sydney in 2011 to take on the position of Clubs NSW Gambling Counsellor. SUMMARY:ISANA Vic/Tas Branch - Wellbeing 101: We are what we eat\, we become what we think about + AGM
DESCRIPTION:Mental health issues\, such as depression and anxiety disorders\, account for the highest burden of global disability. Half of mental illnesses first manifest prior to 14 years of age and childhood disorders are linked to a range of long-term deleterious social\, criminal and economic outcomes in adulthood. Since 2009\, a research team at the Food and Mood Centre (Deakin University) has led many observational studies\, across countries\, cultures and age groups\, showing that diet matters to depression and other health issues. \nBetter quality diets are consistently associated with reduced depression risk\, while unhealthy dietary patterns – higher in processed foods – are associated with increased depression and often anxiety. The importance of good nutritional intake at an early age is explored in multiple studies\, including a systematic review in 2014\, which found that a poor diet is linked to poorer mental health in children and adolescents. \nThe emphasis of this PD session (self-care) is to learn how our food consumption may affect not just our physical health\, but also our mental health and wellbeing. This framework consists of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act)\, the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students (National Code) and the Education Services for Overseas Students Regulations 2001 (ESOS Regulations).\nThese regulatory obligations encompass the international student life cycle from enquiry\, application\, offer\, acceptance\, orientation and beyond … ensuring satisfactory course progress\, attendance and completion within course duration. \nThis workshop will examine the regulatory framework that governs international education in Australia. Participants will be guided through the Act\, the Code and the Regulations to gain a better understanding of what is required to be compliant with a specific focus on their area of responsibility. Good practice will be discussed to enable participants to identify the adequacy of existing compliance measures and to consider opportunities for improvement. \nDuring this workshop\, we will also discuss implementing the changes to the ESOS Regulations coming into effect on the 1st of October. Participants are encouraged to bring real life case scenarios to the workshop for group discussion to determine the best possible outcome … keeping in mind the needs of the student\, the institution and regulatory obligations. \nPresenter – Danielle Hartridge\nDanielle Hartridge is a leading expert in international education with extensive experience working in the university sector. DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nISANA is seeking students who want to learn about consumer protection in the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act.\nISANA: International Education Association\, with funding from Study Melbourne\, is undertaking a Consumer Protection and National Code Project to increase international students’ awareness of the ESOS Act\, specifically the National Code 2018.  If ESOS is to be successful in providing consumer protection\, the consumers (international students) need to understand the legislation and where to go if their provider (institution) has not met its ESOS obligations.\n\nStudent Participation…\nInterested to know more? By looking at each National Code standard we want to gain a better understanding of what students should expect from their institution and we’ll explore the connection between an institution’s obligation and an international student’s visa conditions. \nStudents selected will form project teams to consider how to communicate this information effectively to international students in Victoria. Project teams will present their ideas to a group of interested stakeholders.
