She has been involved in the Student Minds program in various positions since 2017 and is passionate about mental health and wellbeing for students. Angela will share the student’s perspective\, highlighting the barriers and facilitators to engaging students. \nRoisin Trainor\, Health Promotion Coordinator\, UNSW \nRoisin is a Health Promotion Coordinator at UNSW with a focus on student mental health and wellbeing.  Roisin completed a BSc. in Nutrition and an MSc. in Health Promotion and Public Health before moving to Australia in 2015. Her work focuses on improving the mental health literacy of students through training and workshops. Roisin will discuss the importance of self-care and stress management for International Students and how UNSW currently engages students in these activities. \nAsha Zappa\, Mental Health Promotions Officer\, WayAhead Mental Health Association NSW \nAsha is an Art Therapist\, Researcher\, Consumer Advocates\, and WayAhead’s Mental Health Promotion Officer.  Asha has been collaborating on the project 10 Tips to Stress Less for University Students Campaign with WSU\, supported by UNSW and ANU. She will discuss the campaign purpose and resources. \nRowena Sahib\, Mental Health and Well-being Promotions Coordinator\, Western Sydney University \nRowena has been collaborating on the project 10 Tips to Stress Less for University Students Campaign with WayAhead\, supported by UNSW\, and ANU. Rowena will discuss the project including the application and use of collateral and future University program design.

With much of communication moving online\, how does intercultural communications take shape? What are some of the key issues to look out for? How do we ensure that we continue to engage in a culturally inclusive manner when so much of what’s online seems to be ‘one-size-fits-all’. \nAssociate Professor Shanton Chang is Associate Dean (International) at the Melbourne School of Engineering\, The University of Melbourne. He has been involved in building the internship program at the university\, mentoring students\, and engaging with industry partners to enable positive graduate outcomes for students. DESCRIPTION:Information to address international student exploitation – Findings from the Information for Impact Survey\nAssoc Professors Bassina Farbenblum and Laurie Berg will present key findings from the Information for Impact project\, funded by StudyNSW. The Information for Impact project is a groundbreaking collaboration among key stakeholders across the international education sector in NSW to collectively address exploitation of international students at work and in relation to accommodation. This presentation will address international students’ experiences of problems at work\, their knowledge of workplace entitlements and attitudes towards taking action to seek assistance\, as reflected in the recently published International Students and Wage Theft in Australia report. This session will also discuss implications for education providers\, education agents\, student organisations and government regulators. \nBassina Farbenblum is Co-Director of the Migrant Worker Justice Initiative\, and an Associate Professor at UNSW Law. She is also the founding director of the UNSW Human Rights Clinic and the Australian Human Rights Centre’s Migrant and Refugee Rights Project. She has spent almost two decades as immigrant rights lawyer\, researcher and clinical legal educator in New York and Sydney. \nLaurie Berg is Co-Director of the Migrant Worker Justice Initiative\, and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law\, University of Technology Sydney. She is the author of the first book on migrant workers’ rights in Australia: Migrant Rights at Work: Law’s Precariousness at the Intersection of Immigration and Labour published by Routledge in 2016. \nTogether\, Bassina and Laurie led the Information for Impact project.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed by it all\, rest assured that this is a normal response\, and it’s important to take time for self-care. \nSelf-care is a popular topic these days\, and it is often the first thing that gets sacrificed when life is busy and stressful. Many people often think that taking time for themselves seems indulgent; but\, looking after your own wellbeing will help you get through this challenging time\, and provide better care for others. “Please put on your own oxygen mask first before helping others!” Many of us have heard this important rule on flight safety recordings and it’s a useful phrase to remind us about the importance of self-care – if you don’t look after yourself first\, you won’t be able to help yourself or others. \nThe emphasis in this self-care PD session is on assisting with the emotional wellbeing of the person providing and/or offering care to others\, and for this reason\, the skills you learn may be applied to very common\, everyday situations\, especially when working with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures. This PD session will take you through the reasons why you need at least some sort of self-care in your routine\, explore different types of self-care strategies\, and learn from each other’s journey. There will be plenty of opportunity to interact and engage with other participants\, and we will be doing some group activities together. \n  \n \nCoby Liew is an experienced counsellor and social worker\, and a licensed mental health trainer in Australia. COVID-19 has also left major destinations scrambling for strategies and plans to stabilise and rebuild the international education sectors. Latest responses include New Zealand’s announcement of a strategic recovery plan\, injecting NZ $51.6 million to boost the sector\, and Australia’s announcement of visa changes for new and current international students. These initiatives aim to support the recovery of the sector and signal to prospective students that Australia and New Zealand are open and welcoming destinations. But given the global headwinds facing the international education sector\, have these initiatives gone far enough and what might be other implications. This webinar will discuss the factors that determine international education recovery globally and what would be an optimal plan to rebuild the sector? \n  \n \nLy Tran is a Professor in the School of Education\, Deakin University\, Australia and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. Her research focuses on international education\, student mobility\, international student graduate employability and learning abroad. Ly has published extensively on these topics.
