DESCRIPTION:In response to the significant interest in all issues related to under 18 international students\, ISANA and IEAA are pleased to announce the second annual Under 18 Masterclass. Three Masterclasses will be hosted online and address key issues associated with academic progression\, accommodation\, welfare\, and risk management of under 18 international students. Experienced professionals will share good practice on each of the key topics. Participants will be encouraged to discuss challenges and explore solutions. \n\nDates: Wednesdays 27 October\, 3 November & 10 November 2021\nTime: 12 – 1:30pm AEDT\nCost for the three Masterclasses: IEAA and ISANA* members $50 | Non-members $90 \n\nProgram: pdf\n\nMasterclass #1:  In-house under 18 support\nWednesday 27 October 2021\, 12 – 1:30pm (AEDT) \nDeakin College developed an Under 18 program that gives staff the opportunity to build a positive rapport with students by having a live-in caretaker housed at the on-campus residence site\, and a dedicated Deakin College ‘in-house’ guardian. In this Masterclass\, members of the Student Services and Learning Support teams will discuss how this holistic support benefits Under 18 students. They will show how teams throughout the College and partner University work together to support students socially\, emotionally and academically. All education provided to overseas students studying in Australia is governed by multiple authorities administering numerous pieces of state and federal legislation and regulations. The fact that a large percentage of Trinity College Foundation Studies cohort is under the age of 18 further complicates the legislative framework that governs the operations of the Pathways School. This Masterclass will address how Trinity College assures compliance with legal obligations for our students living in third party accommodations \nThe expected learning outcomes from the session are: \n\nGain an understanding of key pieces of Australian legislation or other regulatory requirements relating to child welfare and safety.\nUnderstand preparations a provider must have in place if it accepts responsibility for approving accommodation\, support and general welfare arrangements.\nUnderstand your organisations responsibility with the current legislation context.\n\n \nJen Walsh\nSenior Manager Student Accommodation and Experience Trinity College\nUniversity of Melbourne \n  \n  \n\nMasterclass #3: Risk Management and Under 18 student’s welfare arrangements for return to Australia\nWednesday 10 November\, 12 – 1:30pm AEDT \nThis Masterclass focusses on risk management and support strategies for Study Providers who are preparing for Australian borders to re-open. The session delves into the students predicted journey and highlights the safety and wellbeing concerns for study providers with possible return plans. A perspective from the Queensland Department of Education and Sonder is explored by Nathan Pugliese (Queensland\, Department of Education\, International) and Robert Chase (Sonder). Insights from the Queensland\, Department of Education are offered from their recent participation in the Australian Government’s Year 11 and 12 international student travel exemption Scheme.
