SUMMARY:ISANA National - Self-care for IE Professionals ‘Are U OK?’
DESCRIPTION:Registration: Online bookings have closed \nPlease contact the secretariat if you would like to attend. \nAre You OK?\n \nPresenter: Coby Liew\, counsellor\, social worker\, and a licensed mental health trainer in Australia\nThe world is pretty topsy-turvy right now\, because of the global panic around COVID19. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed by it all\, rest assured that this is a normal response\, and it’s important to take time for self-care. \nSelf-care is a popular topic these days\, and it is often the first thing that gets sacrificed when life is busy and stressful. Many people often think that taking time for themselves seems indulgent; but\, looking after your own wellbeing will help you get through this challenging time\, and provide better care for others. “Please put on your own oxygen mask first before helping others!” Many of us have heard this important rule on flight safety recordings and it’s a useful phrase to remind us about the importance of self-care – if you don’t look after yourself first\, you won’t be able to help yourself or others. \nThe emphasis in this self-care PD session is on assisting with the emotional wellbeing of the person providing and/or offering care to others\, and for this reason\, the skills you learn may be applied to very common\, everyday situations\, especially when working with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures. This PD session will take you through the reasons why you need at least some sort of self-care in your routine\, explore different types of self-care strategies\, and learn from each other’s journey. There will be plenty of opportunity to interact and engage with other participants\, and we will be doing some group activities together. \n  \n \nCoby Liew is an experienced counsellor and social worker\, and a licensed mental health trainer in Australia. He is highly experienced in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Coby offers a collective ten years of working experience in various fields such as mental health and disability\, international education\, community engagement\, child protection\, and project development. Coby has a unique multicultural philosophy complimented with a range of valuable experiences underlying his values and practice framework. He has developed a number of successful initiatives throughout his professional career with a focus on mental health and community engagement. He has presented his works at different conferences and conducted training workshops across different countries for not- for-profit organisations. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/cobyliew888 \nhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cobyliew/ \n  \n  \nIf you have any questions about this PD session\, please feel free to contact:\nCoby Liew\nP: 0408 375 544\nE: Coby.Australia@gmail.com \n

DESCRIPTION:Understanding Information Behaviours of International Students in Crisis\n\nPresenter: Associate Professor Shanton Chang\nHost: ISANA ACTiveNSW Branch\n\nIntercultural communications has been an important aspect of engagement with international students. How do we ensure that we continue to engage in a culturally inclusive manner when so much of what’s online seems to be ‘one-size-fits-all’. \nAssociate Professor Shanton Chang is Associate Dean (International) at the Melbourne School of Engineering\, The University of Melbourne. He has been involved in building the internship program at the university\, mentoring students\, and engaging with industry partners to enable positive graduate outcomes for students. He continues to keep in touch with industry partners and alumni\, to understand the needs and expectations of employers. He has spoken publicly at many forums on International Student employability. He is also one of the co-founders of Victorian Working Group on International Student Employability (VicWISE). He is also an ISANA Life Member. \n  \n  \n
