ISANA is the representative body for international education professionals in Australia, working in student services, advocacy, teaching, policy development and special interest groups.
Life Membership of ISANA is awarded in recognition of an outstanding contribution by an individual to the organisation.
The following criteria and process are set to assist with determining eligibility and completing a nomination for this award.
Principles which will be considered for the granting of a Life Membership
-
- The granting of Life Membership is a great honour and should not be treated lightly. On average, one or less Life Memberships are likely to be awarded each year.
- Life Membership should not only be considered as a competitive matter amongst current nominees. Nominees must also be considered individually and on their personal attributes and achievements. Comparison to past awardees is acceptable in so much as to understand the benchmark expected to grant a Life Award.
- Granting Life Membership is a balancing exercise. Criteria are provided for guidance, but it is the overall contribution of the nominee that must be evaluated. There is necessarily some subjectivity in the granting of Life Membership. Nominees’ strengths against the various criteria will vary. Some nominees will be extremely strong in some criteria but weaker against others, others will be more rounded.
- Life Membership is reserved for those whose contribution goes beyond the ordinary or even the excellent for an extended period.
Criteria considered in granting Life Membership in order of weighting, must demonstrate:
-
- Current or previous financial membership of ISANA
- Contributions to ISANA with emphasis on members who have been a Branch or National Council representative
- Length of active membership
- Contribution to international education in paid work or volunteer roles outside of ISANA
To have contributed to ISANA to the degree necessary for Life Membership, a completed nomination will include information on the following:
-
- the length of time the nominee has been/was a financial Member of ISANA with a minimum period of five (5) years active membership required.
- position/s held as a representative on a Branch or the National Committee and the length of time and dates for each role. The Nominator must demonstrate how the nominee provided significant contributions to the core activities of ISANA over a majority of those years of membership. This may include but is not limited to:
- significant contributions while holding positions on either the ISANA National Council and/or on an ISANA Branch Executive eg. achievements and outcomes should be listed noting why they were significant
- contribution to/on behalf of a Branch Executive or the National Council (both in person and online) eg. submissions to Government; Branch/National Conference organisation or participation; ISANA event organisation or participation; official representation of ISANA at events
- significant contributions to the International Education sector (can include contributions conducted during the nominees paid or voluntary work or as a representative on another Peak Body or organisation)
- demonstrated active participation within the international educational sector and community; and
- testimonies from colleagues/organisations can be included
