Mental Health Conversations

Mental Health Conversations is a 2 hour workshop designed to help participants gain an awareness and understanding of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, know how to identify and respond appropriately to someone who may be experiencing mental distress.

Learning outcomes

After this course participants will:

  • Have a greater awareness mental health and the prevalence of mental ill health
  • Understand how to communicate effectively about mental health and wellbeing with young people from diverse backgrounds, with an appreciation of diverse cultural perspectives.
  • Have a good understanding of the common mental health issues relevant to students, including anxiety, depression, trauma, self harm, eating disorders, and psychosis, as well as the challenges of adapting to international student life.
  • Be able to identify warning signs that someone may be becoming unwell or deteriorating.
  • Know how to respond appropriately, knowing what to say and what not to say when communicating with a young person experiencing distress, to provide initial emotional and practical support.
  • Know where to refer the person to access a range of resources and support as well as further professional help if required.
