In this workshop style session, you will have an opportunity to discuss the following aspects related to support and welfare monitoring of under 18 international students as part of your organisations’ Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare Arrangements (CAAW) and compliance with Standard 5 National Code.
Topics for discussion:
- Effective welfare monitoring models
- Responding to issues concerning young people (e.g. breaches of curfew, alcohol and drug use)
- Talking about sexual and reproductive health to young students
- Extracurricular activities that engage under 18 students
- Communication with parents

Kasia Orlando
Kasia Orlando has been working in the international education sector for the past 15 years. She started her international education journey as an international student herself arriving in Australia in 2002. After completing Masters in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) at Macquarie University in 2004 she worked in variety of roles within international education. For the last 8 years she has been managing Student Support team at UNSW Global which is responsible for delivery of support and welfare services to all UNSW Global students. Within her portfolio is also delivery of UNSW Global Under 18 Care Program which supports approximately 700 international students each year.
