EducationWeek: Centering BIPOC Student Voices and Experiences in Your School District’s Equity Work

24/02/2021 @ 6:00 am - 7:00 am AEDT

Registration: CLICK HERE

“Every child has a right to feel loved and cared for and to feel they belong to a community,” says Elena Aguilar in Coaching for Equity (2020). By asking students to reflect on their experiences of equity and inclusion in school, education leaders can gather both quantitative and qualitative data to understand and improve the racial and cultural climate in their school communities.

Join this webinar to watch Panorama’s Student Voice Panel on Celebrating and Affirming the Racial and Cultural Identities of BIPOC Students. In addition, hear how district and school leaders work to center student voice in order to uncover and address systemic inequities.

Presenters:

Student Voice Panelists:  Mariela, Yohely, and Aisha

Dr. Michael Lowe, Chief Equity Officer, Shelby County Schools (TN)

Cheryl Ward, Director, Social-Emotional and Student Support Services, Columbus City Schools (OH)

Moderator: Becky Barstein, Community Learning Manager, Panorama Education

During this webinar, attendees will:

  • Hear from BIPOC student voice panelists about their experiences in schools
  • Learn from school districts’ structures and practices to elevate student voices– from student surveys to equity task forces
  • Receive actionable tools to help campus teams examine data, create action plans, and monitor progress
