A WORKSHOP SERIES FOR MANAGERS AND PRACTITIONERS WORKING WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

ISANA VIC/TAS in conjunction with International knowledge-base would like to invite you to attend the last session of workshops series for managers and practitioners working with international students and ESOS compliance.

Standard 5 workshop – Younger overseas students 10am to 1pm
The care and welfare of international students now includes the requirement to meet any Commonwealth, State or Territory legislation, or other regulatory requirements relating to child welfare and protection appropriate to the jurisdiction(s) in which providers operate. There are specific requirements to minimise welfare gaps – to take responsibility for students transferring to another provider and to notify parents and the Department of Home Affairs if a provider is no longer able to approve welfare arrangements. Providers must have processes to monitor any third parties engaged by the registered provider to organise and assess welfare and accommodation arrangements. All adults involved in providing international student accommodation or welfare arrangements must have working with children clearances appropriate to the jurisdiction in which they operate. There is also an initial requirement to check that an international student’s accommodation is appropriate to the student’s age and physical needs and every six months thereafter.

This workshop repeats the successful session held on December 1 2017. It will address the following questions:
· What are some good practice examples of guidelines for approving and monitoring third parties involved in accommodation and welfare arrangements?
· How do you ensure there are no gaps in welfare arrangements?
· How do you check the appropriateness of accommodation?
· What is involved in checking accommodation every six months?

Standard 4 workshop – Education agents 2pm to 5pm
This standard confirms the provider’s responsibility for written agreements and the need to maintain this information in PRISMS. Agents are now required to declare and avoid conflicts of interest, observe appropriate levels of confidentiality and transparency in dealing with international students, and act honestly and in good faith. Agents must also have knowledge of the Australian International Education and Training Agent Code of Ethics.

This workshop will address the following questions:
· How do you train your agents and ensure they have access to the plethora of information required to assist students in making an informed decision about their study?
· What is a conflict of interest and how is this declared?
· What level of training is required on the Code of Ethics?
· What resources are available to support agents and providers in their contractual
