After a challenging year in international education, IEAA’s Student Life Forum will kickstart 2021 and arm network members with information and ideas to breathe life into the sector. Held virtually, the Student Life Forum will consist of 3 thematic sessions held across 3 days, and wrapped up with an international student ‘insights’ panel.

The Student Life Forum will focus on 3 key elements of the student experience, including health and wellbeing, study skills, and accommodation and connections. With key insights from practitioners, researchers, and students themselves, the Forum seeks to explore a range of questions, including:

  • What trends and patterns can we expect in international student health and wellbeing in 2021?
  • What is ‘psychological letdown’ and how might it impact our students as they move from COVID-response to COVID-recovery?
  • What were the benefits and challenges of providing student support online, and how can we continue the benefits moving forward?
  • What do students want from their accommodation post-COVID?
  • What is the student experience of various accommodation options?
  • What is the state of play in the student accommodation sector in a post-COVID world?
  • How have accommodation providers responded to challenges in 2020, and how are they preparing for 2021?
  • And what do our students think of all of this?

This forum is aimed at professional and academic staff working across all areas of the international student lifecycle, including:

  • International student support
  • Language and study skills development
  • Student health and well-being
  • Student health insurance
  • Student accommodation
  • Community engagement
  • Life after study (alumni)
  • Careers and employment.

Participants will come away from this year’s forum with deeper understanding of:

  • Current evidence-based trends and patterns in international student mental health and physical safety
  • The impact of COVID-19 on international student mental health and what to expect when students start to return to campus in 2021
  • The benefits and challenges of delivering student services virtually
  • The benefits to continuing online support with return to campus
  • The student experience of accommodation services
  • How accommodation providers are preparing for students returning to Australia
  • What students want from their accommodation post-pandemic
