Academic Integrity
International students are particularly vulnerable to issues associated with academic integrity due to a number of factors, including English being their second language, balancing work and study, the pressure to succeed and the cost of failing. They often lack understanding of plagiarism and have little understanding of anti-cheating laws.

Dr Helen Gniel commenced her current position as the inaugural director of the Higher Education Integrity Unit at TEQSA in January 2021. Helen will assist participants to understand the issues associated with academic integrity and why this is an important priority for TEQSA. What are the different types of cheating and what are the resources available to educate students? What are the actions education providers can undertake to ensure their students are aware of their obligations and do not engage the services of cheating agencies?
