Learn About Your Housing Rights

Who we are
We are a not-for-profit community legal organisation run by a group of lawyers and volunteers called Inner Melbourne Community Legal Centre (IMCL). We provide free legal help to vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our local community, including international students.
Why are writing to you
We are writing to let you know about our upcoming:
- free legal information session
- free advice clinic on housing rights
for international students and workers about tenancy law. We will cover:
- Different types of living arrangements (e.g. share houses, purpose built student accommodation and legal rooming houses) and the different rights and obligations students have
- Landlord obligations and what to do if they do not follow the rules
- Steps to take to protect your tenancy rights before you move into a place to live
- How to identify illegal rooming houses
- Problems commonly encountered by students where they live, including disputes with landlords about repairs, rent and bond.
